Like most people, I like to make New Year Resolutions in January. But, like most people, I’ve forgotten about them by February. I heard a statistic on the radio that most people give up on their resolutions by January 21st. Crazy, right?
So this year I’m taking a different approach. I’m going to focus on a word for the year.
I really thought about what I want my life to look like at this time next year. What does my day to day look like? What is my daughter doing? What is my husband doing? Then I thought about what I needed to do right now that will make that vision happen. I realized, as obvious as it sounds, I just need to show up and put the work in. Consistently.
One of the things I really struggled with in 2017 was consistency. I have a million reasons why, some valid, some not, that I didn’t reach some of the goals I had set for myself. I wanted to run a half marathon, but never ran consistently enough to even build base mileage. I wanted to grow my blog, but didn’t post content for weeks at a time. These aren’t shoot for the stars goals, they are realistic and attainable – if I put in the consistent effort. So that’s what I’m going to do in 2018.
So what are some of the things I want to do consistently this year?
- Quilting (obviously a priority!)
- Walking my dogs
- CEU’s (for my professional licensure)
- just to name a few….
I’ll be sharing more and letting you know how its going as the year goes on. Wish me luck!
If you picked a word of the year, tell me what it is! If you are doing a traditional New Years Resolution, I want to hear about it! If you don’t do either, tell me why! I’d love to hear from you. 🙂
